
Consider becoming a Rowan County Literacy Council volunteer tutor. No teaching experience or foreign language skills are necessary, and the Council provides training, materials, educational support and flexible tutoring schedules.

Tutor Training Information
1. Be at least 18 years old and
have a high school diploma or
its equivalent (G.E.D.)
2. Attend a 14 hour training
workshop
- An orientation session of 2
hours to determine if this is a
good fit for you, and if so,
- Three workshop sessions to
learn the Laubach method for
teaching adults to read, and to
learn about teaching English as
a second language. **
3. Be able to commit to tutoring at least 1 1/2 hours a week (plus preparation time).
** there is a $25 fee for this workshop to cover the cost of materials. Subsequently, all teaching materials will be provided to you free of charge.
Note: All tutoring is done at branches of the Rowan Public Library or other approved public sites.
